Great Support to Education: Fosun Awarded Scholarship and Faculty Fellowship in Fudan University
On April 3, 2014, the Award Ceremony of Fosun Pharma Scholarship and Faculty Fellowship of the School of Life Sciences, Fudan University was held in Yifu Science and Technology Building of Fudan University. Chen Haoming, Secretary of the School of Life Sciences; Pan Jun, Director of External Liaison & Development and Vice Secretary General of Education Foundation of Fudan University; and Li Chun, Senior Vice President of Fosun Pharma attended the ceremony.
14 students were awarded with Fosun Pharma Scholarship (including 4 first prizes and 10 second prizes), and 16 teachers with Fosun Pharma Faculty Fellowship.
After the award, Li Chun, SVP of Fosun Pharma addressed briefly to the students and teachers about the company’s development and strategy. He said that Fosun Pharma has a natural and profound association with Fudan University, particularly with the School of Life Sciences. The four founders of Fosun Group, the parent company of Fosun Pharma were all elites from Fudan, three of which were graduated from the School of Life Sciences. Fosun Pharma will continue to strongly support education, award and subsidize excellent students and teachers, and encourage students to work hard, lay eyes on future success and become a person of great use for China.
Secretary Chen Haoming expressed gratitude to Fosun Pharma for its constant support to the education of Fudan University. He hoped the students present at the ceremony not view the scholarship as mere material rewards, but see its spiritual motivation value and Fosun’s contribution to the society and education. He also hoped that teachers and students can learn the spirit and make full use of their own wisdom, contribution and fortune to repay the alma mater, care for the society and serve the country, so as to carry forward the spirit of gratitude and devotion.
It’s reported that Fosun Pharma established Fosun Pharma Scholarship and Faculty Fellowship of the School of Life Sciences, Fudan University in 2006 to recognize able students from impoverished families and young teachers with achievements in scientific research innovation to help them make greater progress in study and scientific research. So far, Fosun Pharma has aided 98 students and 85 teachers in the School of Life Sciences. Among the aided teachers, 3 were awarded with National Outstanding Youth Fund, 2 rated as Yangtze Distinguished Professor of the Ministry of Education, 2 as Top Teachers in Fudan University, 6 as Introduced Talents in Fudan University and 18 were promoted to a higher positional title in the past five years, all with outstanding achievements in scientific research and teaching.
Fosun Pharma has been long committed to the principle of sustainable development, and actively promoting the development of charity. Since 1998, Fosun Pharma has participated in and organized a number of charity activities covering education and research, environmental protection, healthcare and social needs and culture projects across multiple countries and regions. Currently, Fosun Pharma has formed an optimized charity system - the Future Star Charity Program, to demonstrate CSR and give back to the society through support to education, financial aid to research, community healthcare service, rescue of sick orphans, donation for the poor and disaster aid.

The 21st century is the century of life sciences. I feel this field is very promising, with great potential in both scientific research and product industrialization. I hope in the future I can contribute to it. It’s my honor to accept Fosun Pharma Scholarship, which is recognition to my serious study. I'll use the award money to buy some IT books, because for life sciences professionals, lab practice only is not enough, IT technologies such as programming and modeling are also essential to research life sciences systematically.

My current research interest is in the diagnosis and treatment of cancer. The cancer is difficult yet necessary to overcome. I’ve received the admission notice from University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center, where I hope to learn advanced techniques, broaden my horizon and achieve some results. As for my career planning, I wish to join pharmaceutical companies to develop drugs, applying the theory to the reality.
Zhang Xuelian, Associate Professor, the School of Life Sciences, Fudan University
Anti-tuberculosis drug discovery and target validation is my direction. As I gradually conduct in-depth research in this area, I find the study of anti-TB drugs is indeed very important for human health, that’s why I held on and am willing to persist. I’ll go on my journey, seriously, hoping to discover better anti-TB compounds to serve China. The setting of Fosun Pharma Scholarship and Faculty Fellowship of the School of Life Sciences, Fudan University is a good incentive for the students and teachers, so that you perceive some positive energy in this impetuous society, and in the cause of education.
